ADHD Therapy Services
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, can help a person with ADHD manage the emotional impact of their symptoms and live more effectively. The type of therapy will vary depending on the individual and their symptoms, as well as any co-existing conditions.
The most common types of psychotherapy for ADHD involve cognitive behavioral therapy, which changes a person’s thoughts and behaviors to reduce negative symptoms, and relapse prevention therapy, which helps people keep their symptoms under control. Medication may also be used in conjunction with these therapies.
People with ADHD often experience a great deal of frustration, blame and anger from their family members for their behaviors. Therapy that addresses these feelings can greatly improve relationships. Other types of psychotherapy for ADHD include family counseling, couples therapy and classes that teach communication skills and conflict resolution. In addition, art therapy and animal-assisted therapy can help relieve stress. These treatments are often used in conjunction with medication to improve the effectiveness of treatment.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy focuses on improving daily functions and enhancing independence, while also fostering well-being. OT practitioners can help individuals with a range of disorders and disabilities, such as physical, cognitive and emotional issues.
During an evaluation, your therapist will examine your abilities and the obstacles you face. Then, they’ll develop goals and adjustments – also known as interventions — to address those obstacles. These may include learning to use a new piece of assistive equipment, such as a wheelchair or prosthetic leg.
At Spectrum, we’re proud to offer OT services within our residential and day habilitation programs. Our OT team is ready to help you or your loved one thrive using the latest techniques in our warm and welcoming facilities. For more information, please contact us today.
EMDR Therapy Services
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is an empirically supported psychotherapy approach for alleviating psychological stress, and particularly effective in treating trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). It’s also useful in managing the distress associated with many other conditions, including chronic pain, medically unexplained symptoms, and other physical ailments.
A qualified therapist can use bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or taps on the hands or arms, to help reprocess traumatic memories and transform them into adaptive beliefs and perspectives. The therapy can also be used to help you cope with current triggers and reduce symptoms of anxiety, depression, and relationship problems.
During the first phase, your therapist will gather a full history and conduct an assessment to determine if EMDR is right for you. They will then prepare you for EMDR sessions and teach you strategies to handle emotional distress during and between therapy sessions. They will also reevaluate your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
Naturopathic Services
Naturopathy is a distinct healthcare profession that blends age-old healing traditions with modern science. NDs focus on whole patient wellness, addressing root cause rather than individual symptoms.
They view the body as a complex, intelligent system with a powerful innate healing ability. To do this they utilize a variety of modalities such as clinical nutrition, homeopathy, botanical medicine and acupuncture.
Our naturopaths are trained in the modalities listed above and can help with many different conditions including acid reflux, hormonal imbalance, SIBO and thyroid problems. They will take an in-depth patient history and complaint oriented physical exam. They will also recommend various lab tests through accredited laboratories to allow them to make an accurate diagnosis.
Our naturopaths are often sought out as a last resort when clients have been unable to get relief through other treatments. They offer hope and a path forward, whether it be to improve mood, regain energy or lose weight. Clients should always check with their insurance providers to see if naturopathic services are covered.
