Dental Services
Tooth repair is a dental work that involves filling the tooth cavities and replacing the decayed or broken teeth via inlays & onlays, veneers, crowns & bridges, root canal and dental fillings (composite and amalgam). It’s important to get these services done as soon as you have a tooth related issue to avoid further complications.
It is a common misconception that dental health care only includes your teeth and gums, but in reality oral health is a part of your overall well-being. Poor oral health can lead to other health problems, like heart disease and diabetes.
West Hills Dentist are medical professionals who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the mouth, teeth and jawbones. They are a vital part of the healthcare team and have an important role in helping patients maintain healthy smiles.
During a dental exam, a dentist uses small tools to check your teeth for signs of decay or other issues. They also examine the soft tissues of your mouth, including the gums and tongue. X-rays may be used to help spot problems that aren’t visible during an examination, such as a possible abscess or cyst.
Dental work is performed by a dental team, which usually consists of West Hills Dentist. Most dentists work in private practices, although some provide public health services (such as education and research) or work for the government (dental schools, prisons, armed forces bases and so on).
Preventive / Diagnostic
The first set of dental services are preventive in nature, meaning they help you maintain good oral health and can often spot potential problems early — saving you pain and money later. These services include routine cleanings, bite-wing x-rays and full mouth x-ray series, which are taken at least once every three years, as well as topical fluoride treatments.
Basic / Restorative
If a cavity or crack gets too deep to be treated with a filling, the tooth will likely need more extensive dental work. These procedures are called restorative and include the following:
A root canal is a procedure to treat a badly infected tooth. During the process, a dentist will remove the damaged pulp, clean and disinfect the interior canals of the tooth, then fill the canals with a rubbery material called gutta percha. The biting surface of the tooth is then covered with a filling or crown to protect it from further damage.
If you need a more significant repair, your dentist may recommend dental implants. This is a surgical procedure to replace the missing or broken part of your tooth with a synthetic tooth. In some cases, the implant will need to be attached to a metal rod to support it and keep it in place. Other times, the implant will be fused to the bone and won’t require any support from the adjacent teeth. These are considered major procedures and may be more expensive than other types of tooth repair.
